Commercialization Processes…and speed to market

As technologies advance and competitors threaten to erode market share the need for accelerating the pace of product introductions becomes crucial. ECG is expert at leveraging existing competencies and creating new approaches that speed the introduction of new products, line extensions or additional applications or indications.

Robust processes share the stage with quality products when commercialization is successful and customers and other stakeholders are satisfied. The uncertainty generally associated with financial forecasts, launch dates, and regulatory approvals is mitigated by using well designed and implemented processes. The complexities of determining, in a comprehensive fashion, the progress of a product toward launch are varied. Distilling the volumes of information and data into meaningful, actionable reports is facilitated by using high quality processes. ECG uses a customized approach tailored to each organization to either improve or install the right process solution.

In a start up company, processes are implemented on a “just-in-time” basis, as the product evolves. Not only must the processes be well designed and implemented, they must be adopted in a fashion that considers the unique requirements of the organization. Each phase of product commercialization has a unique set of processes that are required to avoid surprises and protracted launch delays.

A commercial focus is required before establishing the feasibility of a technology or product. Articulated market assessments and preliminary market requirements are needed to guide the research effort. Following the establishment of feasibility, the need for specific operational processes occurs early in the research phase. During research, rigorous attention to data requirements and data retrieval are essential for seamless entry into the development phase. During Development the number of processes required to provide for smooth and rapid commercial launch increases dramatically. ECG’s staff of consultants has directed the commercialization of hundreds of new medical products.

We know how to utilize processes to successfully commercialize both breakthrough and mature technologies or products.

Project Management…and predictable results

We understand that high levels of predictability greatly improve results on complex projects. Typically, project management is consumed with the scheduling process and logistical issues associated with coordination. While the schedule and coordination are critical elements of project management, ECG’s approach is more comprehensive. In concert with key project stakeholders, an initial in depth gap analysis of inputs to critical deliverables provides the necessary preliminary information for the process. Following this initial effort, we move quickly into the development of plans, schedules and communication channels. During this phase key deliverables are defined and agreement is reached amongst the various stakeholders. During the execution phase, systems are established that allow all participants access to overall project status. An executive summary is prepared on a periodic basis that distills overall status of the project.

Operations Management…and competitive advantage

Operations is a critical function in any successful company. Any weakness in this area can compromise the value and contribution of any technology or product. The creativity of Marketing campaigns and productivity of Sales can be sabotaged by lack of supply. The opportunity associated with rapid product approval can quickly dissolve with persistent quality problems. Strength in Manufacturing, Quality, Product Transfer, Process Engineering, and Supply Chain Management can help create and sustain competitive advantage.

ECG specializes in the following areas:

  • Manufacturing and Outsourcing Strategies
  • Establishment or enhancement of Manufacturing Operations
  • Audits and Due Diligence
  • Product and technology transfer
  • Process and product development and validation
  • Cost improvement and contingency planning
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Quality Systems
  • Design Control

Integration of acquired technologies and products

The success of promising newly acquired operations, products or processes depends upon successful integration and implementation. Planning clarity and effective communication are essential. While often overlooked, merchandizing the purpose of the new addition is critical to achieving organizational commitment and acceptance. Working with or as Project Leaders, our approach is to ensure planning and communication processes are in place. We utilize a number of approaches to foster organizational commitment.
